NANCHANKULAM 200 BICENTENARY PROJECT
THE EVENT:
Our village is completing 200 years in 2019, nine years from now on. We are on our way to celebrate bicentenary year of the village. As part of our celebrations, the following schemes are to be launched
1) To make the village free from plastics by way of creating awareness, education, campaign and mobilization of the village population students, women, men and elderly in collaboration with similar agencies working in the district and the state.
2) Beautification of the storm water drainage canal by filling with fresh river sand and pebbles, provide short shrubs on the either banks, prevent dumping of waste in the canal, provide three feet high compound wall for the length that runs inside the village.
3) Due to cement pavement in the streets, the waste and drainage water runs through the entire street, to streamline the outlet of water without disturbing the present cement pavement
4) To make a socio-economic statistics immediately a pilot questionnaire is to be prepared
5) To launch the Nanchai 200 scholars, identify 200 students from BPL of the village and to support them till graduation.
6) To launch Uzhavar Mayyam (Peasant Centre) to train and conscientise them to adopt sustainable agriculture, organic farming, use of natural fertilizers and pesticides, revival of cultivation of millets – small millet - samaai, kodo millet - varagu & finger millet - kezhvaragu
7) To launch a “Seed Centre” to obtain and preserve traditional seeds and to document the traditional knowledge of agriculture
8) To open a natural pesticides/fertilizers distribution Out Let not only for our village but also for the neighboring villages
9) To promote the women SHG and actively engage them through many activities and benefit by their activities to help them develop a Micro and Small Industries Consultation not only for our village but also for the neighboring villages
10) To launch a Rural Library cum Reading Room for the youth to spend time in a useful manner
11) To launch a Daily Meals Scheme for the old and orphans in the village with the help of the social service groups like Rotary, Lions, Roundtable, Y’smen, Innerwheel, etc
12) To launch and run a Community School alive to the needs of the village – part time, evening classes, like tailoring, electrical works, automobile works, repairs to domestic electrical appliances, minor civil works, rural and appropriate technology
THE SOURCE:
To finance these schemes money is required. However, for good things money was never an obstacle. Finding the money is easier for genuine works. Once the sincerity is established, money would start pouring.
In a novel way it is proposed to contribute Rs 100/- per household per year both living in village and not living in village for next 9 years, or Rs 10/- per household per month both living in village and not living in village for next 9 years.
A simple calculation would reveal payment of Rs. 100/- by 1000 families per year would amount to Rs One Lakh. For the next nine years a sum of Rs Nine Lakhs can be easily raised from among us.
Besides, we can also approach some of the Govt agencies to assist our programmes like Plastic free campaign, feed the old and orphans, etc,
Further, with the help of the international social service organizations/ groups like Rotary, Lions, Roundtable, Inner wheel, Y’smen, etc etc, also through the Corporate Social Responsibility of various Companies in the vicinity.
THE PLAYERS:
The players are those who are in the village and not in the village, the residents and non-residents. However, to execute and evaluate, a Central Committee consisting of the resident and non resident would formed. Under the direct control, the following sub committees would be formed: evaluation and execution committee,
1) The Finance Committee,
2) The Social Welfare Committee,
3) The Education Committee,
4) The Agriculture And Allied Committee,
5) The Environment Committee,
6) The Communal And Religious Committee,
7) The Women’s Committee,
8) The Infrastructure Committee
9) The Micro and Small Industries Committee
The Finance Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, one Project Assistant, and four members of which one must be a woman. Accounts are to be closed for each month and the statement of accounts is to be prepared month wise for scrutiny by the general council.
The Social Welfare Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, seven members from Education Committee, Agriculture and Allied Committee, Environment Committee, Communal and Religious Committee, Women’s Committee And Infrastructure Committee and Finance Committee
The Education Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, five members from the social welfare committee, the RC middle school, the CSI High School, the night school and the community school each
The Agriculture and Allied Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, seven members from the sub committees – irrigation, seeds and distribution, pesticides & fertilizers, organic farming, sustainable development, training & marketing and social welfare committee
The Environment Protection Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, members from Agriculture, social welfare, irrigation, seeds and distribution, pesticides & fertilizers, organic farming, sustainable development, training & marketing and social welfare committee
The Communal and Religious Unity Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, nine members from all the committees and fifty percent of the members must be women
The Women’s Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary both of them would be women. Women members from all the other committees would ex officio members of the women committee not exceeding seven women
The Infrastructure Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, three project assistants and four members along with the Panchayat President, as ex officio member of the committee
The Micro and Small Industries Committee: There would be one President, one Secretary, three project assistants and five members along with the Panchayat President, as ex officio member of the committee
BANK ACCOUNT:
A separate bank savings bank account to be opened in the name of “Nanchankulam Bicentenary Project” jointly by the Secretary and Treasurer of the finance committee. The savings bank account in case of non availability of either of the signatories, the President is authorized to sign.
CENTRAL STEERING COMMITTEE:
The following shall be the Central Steering Committee members. They shall elect a President and a Secretary General who shall hold office for a period of three years. They shall not be eligible for reelection to pave the way for the other members to take up leadership.
